Which credit card payment gateway should I use?

There are a few things to consider when choosing a credit card gateway... how easy is it to set up, what are the transaction fees like, and what's the support like.

The problem with PayPal is it looks like PayPal. The basic setup takes you away from the website and on to a PayPal page. Some users accept this and value the security PayPal provides. Other users see this as amateurish. Generally it's more accepted in the US than the UK where we still feel it's somehow less professional than a proper credit card gateway.

One good solution is PayPal Pro which is easy to set up, doesn't appear to be PayPal, allows the user to stay on the website and has very competitive fees, especially with high volumes.

At the time of writing, fees are £20/month plus...

Purchase payments received (monthly) Fee per transaction

£1,500.01 GBP - £6,000.00 GBP 2.9% + £0.20 GBP
£6,000.01 GBP - £15,000.00 GBP 2.4% + £0.20 GBP
£15,000.01 GBP - £55,000.00 GBP 1.9% + £0.20 GBP
