Breakdown of OpenCart Versions by Downloads
When building extensions we often get asked which versions of OpenCart are most popular and which versions are in use. Unfortunately it's not really possible to get hold of these numbers as OpenCart doesn't spy on its users by sending data back to OpenCart.com about the version in use and the type of website.
While it's true that there are sites like Wappalyzer, BuiltWith, and others that try to guess what platform various websites use and while they do try to compile lists and statistics about which platforms are in use and by what percentage, they can only estimate and especially in the case of OpenCart where the front-end code is very similar or even identical between versions, it can be impossible to tell - which isn't a bad thing for security in any case.
So there's not really any way to tell what versions of OpenCart are actually in use and OpenCart.com doesn't currently show the number of downloads split between versions.
Luckily though, Daniel Kerr, OpenCart's Lead Developer and Project Owner was kind enough to share this info with us and a breakdown of downloads between versions is listed below. Note that this doesn't tell you what versions are actually in use "in the wild" but it does give you a rough idea.
