Speed Up Your OpenCart Admin Login Caused by the Yahoo! Currency Updates

If you've noticed your OpenCart Admin taking 30 - 60 seconds to load after logging in, you're not alone. This issue affects many OpenCart 3 stores and is caused by an outdated currency exchange rate service.

What's causing the slowdown?

When the OpenCart Admin Dashboard loads, it attempts to refresh your store's currency exchange rates automatically (if you happen to have this feature enabled in the settings).

Older versions of OpenCart use Yahoo Finance as the exchange rate provider. Unfortunately, Yahoo discontinued this free service several years ago. Instead of failing immediately, the request can take a long time to time out, causing the entire Admin Dashboard to appear frozen.

In many cases, simply logging into the Admin can take anywhere from 30 seconds to over a minute before actually redirecting you to the dashboard.

What does this OCMod do?

This OCMod removes the automatic call that refreshes currency exchange rates when the Admin Dashboard loads.

By preventing OpenCart from contacting the unavailable Yahoo Finance service, the Admin Dashboard loads normally again, allowing you to log in and browse the Admin Panel without unnecessary delays.

The modification only removes the outdated refresh call - it does not make any other changes to your store.

Is this a permanent solution?

This is intended as a quick and effective fix for stores that do not rely on automatic currency exchange rate updates; and need a fix now.

If your store uses multiple currencies and requires up-to-date exchange rates, you'll still need to install an extension or modification that replaces the discontinued Yahoo Finance service with a supported exchange rate provider.
