Here's What You Should Check After a Completed OpenCart Upgrade or Rebuild
So we’ve just completed updating or fully rebuilding your OpenCart store. But before we wrap things up, there's one important step left: testing. Thoroughly testing your site ensures everything works as expected, providing your customers with the best shopping experience.
1. Homepage Check
-
Make sure the homepage loads quickly and correctly.
-
Check banners, sliders, and featured products (do they display the right images, links, and text?)
-
Test any search bar or quick search functionality.
-
Verify that promotional content or special offers display properly.
2. Product Pages
-
Navigate to multiple product pages - don’t just check one or two, pick a variety of products.
-
Confirm product images load, and zoom features work if applicable.
-
Review product descriptions, prices, and any custom fields (like size, colour, etc.).
-
Test the “Add to Basket” button - does the item show up in the basket correctly?
3. Category Pages
-
Visit different category pages and subcategories.
-
Make sure products display correctly and filters work (like price range, size, brand, etc.).
-
Check pagination - does clicking “Next” or page numbers load more products?
4. Shopping Basket
-
Add multiple products to the basket.
-
Remove items - does the total update properly?
-
Make sure any discount codes or vouchers work.
5. Checkout Process
-
Perform a full test order, using different payment methods (PayPal, credit card, etc.).
-
Check if delivery options appear correctly based on customer location.
-
Confirm confirmation emails are received after placing an order.
-
If you offer guest checkout, test both guest and registered user checkouts.
6. User Account Testing
-
Register a new account - does the process work smoothly?
-
Log in and log out.
-
Review the “My Account” section - check order history, wish lists, and address book.
7. Contact and Forms
-
Test all contact forms - submit an enquiry and confirm it’s received.
-
Check newsletter subscription forms - do you get a confirmation email?
8. Speed and Performance
-
Run a speed test (using tools like Google PageSpeed Insights) - is your site loading efficiently?
-
Make sure images and videos don’t slow down page load times.
9. Mobile and Browser Compatibility
-
Test your site on various devices - desktop, mobile, and tablet.
-
Use multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) to spot any display issues.
10. SEO and Metadata
-
Check product and category pages for meta titles, descriptions, and URLs. Make sure SEO friendly URLs show.
-
Ensure schema markup is correct (especially for product listings).
